Welcome

Business has tremendous power for fueling growth, creating jobs, and inventing useful products and services that solve big problems. Those successes, however, would not be possible without the hard work of creating the right environment. The Center for Responsible Enterprise And Trade—CREATe.org—was developed to help bring innovative thinking and action to promoting the rules-based trade and responsible business practices vital to sustainable growth and job creation. Read the full welcome message from CREATe.org President and CEO Pamela Passman.

Ms. Passman recently spoke at the 2011 Techonomy conference about harnessing the power of global supply chains to promote responsible business practices. Watch the full speech here.

Welcome to CREATe.org!

Over the past 15 years, I have seen the tremendous power business can have in fueling growth, creating jobs, and inventing useful products and services that solve big problems. I also believe that the changes we have witnessed over this period will be modest compared to what we will see in the next 15 years.

We know that a more sustainable global economy will be good for people and businesses everywhere. However, it won’t happen without hard work to create the right environment. As we have seen across a range of issues – including sustainable labor and environmental practices, intellectual property rights, anti-corruption efforts and financial integrity – institutionalizing responsible business practices requires collective will, resources and attention.

Some countries and societies have long embraced a culture of responsibility and compliance. Elsewhere, this culture has emerged only more recently. But very real gaps remain that work against healthy economic competition and, if left unchecked, will undermine the ability to stand up to the strong economic headwinds we feel today. Simply put, those who share the same economic values need to create and enforce agreements, systems and mechanisms that guarantee fair competition throughout the world.

Global companies can help by driving greater responsibility and compliance in their global supply chains – a key to creating sustainable jobs, growth and innovation. In doing so, they can benefit their own business, the global economy, and their communities.

And so the Center for Responsible Enterprise And Trade—CREATe.org—was developed to help bring innovative thinking and action to promoting the rules-based trade and responsible business practices vital to sustainable growth and job creation.

We hope you will join us on this journey.
